Top 5 Music Venues in Nashville

You're in Nashville. Whether you live here or are just visiting, you must take advantage and catch some of the unbelievable musicians while in town - truly, you're among the greatest in the world.

Of course the artist you're seeing will define how the good the show is or is not, but, I'd argue that equally as impactful is the space that you see them in. Luckily, Nashville is filled with plenty of spots that will please even the most discriminatory of musical act and venue palettes.

Here are my choices for the BEST music venues in Nashville (and in my typical fashion, the following are in no particular order):

The Basement
There is just something about this place. Literally in the basement of a business on 8th Avenue near Downtown, I have seen some of the most incredible musicians in my life come in and out its doors. A small, intimate venue that gets you up close and personal with the performing acts.

The Ryman
You can't have a list about the best music venues in Nashville and not include the Ryman. Often referred to as the Mother Church of country music, the Ryman may be a home of the Grand Ole Opry but serves far more than just the country crowd. The acoustics are spot on, and there is absolutely no bad seat in the house.

The Station Inn
It's crazy to see the development that has spurred around this quaint venue in the middle of Nashville's Gulch neighborhood, yet the Station Inn remains unchanged.  You can catch acts from bluegrass to rock, and if you're lucky, Vince Gill might make an appearance at your show.

Mercy Lounge
Cannery Ballrooms' little brother (or sister), Mercy Lounge is a fabulous spot to see a show and again, get up close to the acts. Speaking of acts, Mercy Lounge's calendar is consistently stacked with prime talent. Situated near Downtown, you have a plethora of options for hitting the town before or (and) after the show.

The Family Wash
Just for something a little out of the norm head across the river to the East side, grab a 'Pint & Pie', and listen to some tunes. Definitely a cozy space that will leave you craving dark brews and Shepherds Pie. Or maybe that's just me.

What's YOUR favorite music venue in Nashville?
